OMIA:001809-9615 : Leg morphology (leg width versus leg length) in Canis lupus familiaris (dog)

Categories: Limbs / fins / digit / tail phene

Links to MONDO diseases: No links.

Mendelian trait/disorder: unknown

Considered a defect: no

Mapping: From a genome scan with 500 microsatellites genotyped in 330 Portuguese Water Dogs phenotyped for a range of measurable skeletal traits, Chase et al. (2002) identified QTL for four principal components of the skeletal traits, namely PC1 (Overall size of skeleton), PC2 (leg length versus width), PC3 (length of skull and limbs versus skull width and height) and PC4 (length of skull and limbs versus strength of limb and axial skeleton). Lark et al. (2006) reported mapping of the main QTL for PC2 to a 26Mb region on chromosome CFA12. Quignon et al. (2009) fine-mapped this QTL to a 500 kb region, very close to two collagen genes.

Genetic engineering: Unknown
Have human generated variants been created, e.g. through genetic engineering and gene editing
