OMIA:000514-9615 : Hypertriglyceridaemia in Canis lupus familiaris (dog)

In other species: domestic cat

Categories: Homeostasis / metabolism phene

Possibly relevant human trait(s) and/or gene(s) (MIM number): 145750 (trait)

Links to MONDO diseases: No links.

Mendelian trait/disorder: unknown

Considered a defect: yes

Cross-species summary: Elevated fasting serum triglycerides concentrations are called Hypertriglyceridaemia. Primary Hypertriglyceridaemia is caused by genetic defects that cause abnormal triglyceride metabolism while secondary Hypertriglyceridaemia can be associated with other causes, such as nutrition, drugs, and/or other metabolic syndromes.

History: Thanks to Hamutal Mazrier for noting the previous lack of this entry (8 Jan 2015).

Molecular basis: Xenoulis et al. (2020) "concluded that coding variants in APOC2 are unlikely to be a major cause of idiopathic hypertriglyceridemia in North American Miniature Schnauzers".

Genetic engineering: Unknown
Have human generated variants been created, e.g. through genetic engineering and gene editing

Breed: Miniature Schnauzer (Dog) (VBO_0200896).
Breeds in which the phene has been documented. For breeds in which a likely causal variant has been documented, see the variant table below
