Mendelian trait/disorder: yes

Considered a defect: no

Key variant known: no

Year key variant first reported: 2016

Molecular basis: Li et al. (2015): "amhy, a Y-specific duplicate of the anti-Müllerian hormone (amh) gene, induces male sex determination in Nile tilapia. . . . the duplicated amhy with a missense SNP is the candidate sex determining gene and amhy/amhrII signal is essential for male sex determination in Nile tilapia" Cáceres et al. (2019) confirmed the importance of the amh gene, but did not report any definitive likely causal variants.

Genetic engineering: Unknown
Have human generated variants been created, e.g. through genetic engineering and gene editing
