Categories: Pigmentation phene

Possibly relevant human trait(s) and/or gene(s)s (MIM numbers): 266300 (trait) , 155555 (gene)

Links to MONDO diseases: No links.

Mendelian trait/disorder: yes

Considered a defect: no

Key variant known: yes

Markers: Ran et al. (2016) reported "three single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) [in MC1R] were detected, including G199A, G225A, and A466G, which subsequently determined four haplotypes (H1-H4). Among them, H1 is the predominant haplotype. Association analysis revealed that H1 and H3 were significantly associated with the black plumage trait (P < 0.05), while the H4 was significantly associated with gray plumage trait (P < 0.05). Furthermore, only diplotype H1H1 was significantly associated with black and gray traits of pigeons." None of these associations appears to be sufficient to justify concluding that any of these polymorphisms is a likely causal variant.

Genetic engineering: Unknown
Have human generated variants been created, e.g. through genetic engineering and gene editing
