OMIA:002448-8030 : Resistance/susceptibility to infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV) in Salmo salar (Atlantic salmon)

Categories: Immune system phene

Possibly relevant human trait(s) and/or gene(s) (MIM number): 603385 (gene)

Links to MONDO diseases: No links.

Mendelian trait/disorder: no

Mode of inheritance: Multifactorial

Considered a defect: yes

Key variant known: no

Species-specific description: Pavelin et al. (2021): "Whole genome sequencing and functional annotation were used to characterise the major IPNV resistance QTL in Atlantic salmon. Gene expression analyses pointed to NEDD-8 activating enzyme 1 (nae1) as a putative functional candidate underlying the QTL. CRISPR-Cas9 knockout and chemical inhibition of nae1 in cell lines resulted in significant reduction in IPNV replication."

Mapping: Pavelin et al. (2021): "A major quantitative trait locus (QTL) affecting resistance was described by two independent groups [Houston et al., 2008; Moen et al., 2009], and explains 80–100% of the genetic variance in mortality due to the disease."

Genetic engineering: Unknown
Have human generated variants been created, e.g. through genetic engineering and gene editing
