Mapping: In an imaginative project, Sandor et al. (2012) gathered SNP genotype data from 10,192 Dutch bulls each genotyped with 50,876 SNPs, and 3,783 New Zealand bulls each genotyped with 51,456 SNPs (19,487 SNPs being common to both groups). Each bull belonged to either generation I, II or II of a three-generation pedigree. After phasing the SNP genotypes, Sandor et al. (2012) identified cross-overs in the transmission of gametes from GII bulls to their GIII sons, from which they estimated the genome-wide recombination rate (GRR) for each GII bull. A linkage/LD analysis then revealed two QTL for GRR, one on chromosome BTA10 and another on BTA19. Fine-mapping revealed "genetic variants in REC8 and RNF212 influence genome-wide recombination rate".

Genetic engineering: Unknown
Have human generated variants been created, e.g. through genetic engineering and gene editing
