OMIA:003001-9321 : Chromosomal structural anomaly, inversion, pericentric, autosomal in Osphranter rufus (red kangaroo) |
In other species: chicken , pig , taurine cattle
Categories: Chromosomal phene
Single-gene trait/disorder: unknown
Disease-related: unknown
Molecular basis: Suedmeyer et al. (2014) conducted a karyotype analyses in a red kangaroo with Peters anomaly (see OMIA:001914-9321 for details) and noted a chromosomal abnormalty that may have contributed to the phenotyp: "both lymphocytes and fibroblasts showed a normal diploid chromosome number (2n = 20, –XX). However, the second largest chromosome pair was polymorphic in all cells analyzed, and G-banding demonstrated a pericentric inversion. The inversion changed one element of the normally acrocentric pair to a submetacentric, an abnormality not reported previously in this species."
